This native timber brooch features the Amegilla cingulata Blue Banded Bee, found throughout Western Australia. Blue-banded bees are solitary creatures unlike social species such as honey bees, which live in large colonies. Females inhabit burrows in soil or soft stone, Males rest on plant stems during the night.
Crafted from Allocasuarina fraseriana, commonly known as Western Sheoak found throughout Perth and the South-West Region of WA. Sheoak trees can grow up to 15m high, have needle like leaves and have either male and female flowers. The wood grain has a distinctive lace pattern.
