Bilby Sheoak Earrings

These native timber earrings feature the Macrotis lagotis Bilby, found in semi-arid areas of Western Australia. The Bilby is also famous for being one of fastest breeding mammals on Earth with a 12 to 14 day pregnancy. There are many threats contributing to the dramatic decline of Bilby populations, the most important of these are habitat loss and change and competition with introduced animals such as foxes and feral cats. Bilbies can be seen at Perth Zoo Noctural house.

Crafted from Allocasuarina fraseriana, commonly known as Western Sheoak found throughout Perth and the South-West Region of WA often in Jarrah Forest. Shoeaks can grow up to 15m high, have needle like leaves and have either male and female flowers. The wood grain has a distinct lace pattern.

Engraved solid sheaok earrings with nickel free backs.
